OOTD: Out with the old and in with the new...

After well over a debatably excusable month or so of blogging, I'm back with more motivation. Did I say I? Yes - I - as I (Arianne) am now embarking on blogging solo. Whilst it is a shame to no longer continue this as a duo, hopefully blogging alone will allow this to become more of a personal creative platform as we reach the new year, something which I have been wanting to do as I've gotten a bit older and particularly with the rise of your trend-grabbing-run-of-the-mill personal style and beauty bloggers, so stay tuned for more think and rant pieces...oh and OOTDs of course...

OOTD: Leather

Jumper - Tommy Hilfiger
Trousers - Nicole Farhi (Vintage)
Shoes - Buffalo
Bag - And Other Stories

Gone are the warm summer days of colour and bright prints, and it is just the beginning of the monochrome and monotony that is winter dressing. Today I (Arianne) spent the afternoon freezing and crying about the fact that I can't afford anything worth more than a chocolate bar whilst wondering around Soho. Speaking of being broke, the clothing I'm wearing is all my mother's, whilst I was luckily able to pull together some of my own accessories to tailor the outfit more to my personal style...

Makeup Tutorial: Wet-Look Eyeshadow

From the catwalks, to Instagram and beyond, glossy makeup is making a comeback...so pull out your lipgloss from 2006 and a bright eyeshadow to create this fun eye makeup look. Although it may not be the most practical or fuss-free look, this is a quick and easy method of recreating this cool and quirky makeup...
***
1. Apply a light eyeshadow as a base. I just used a pearly-white shade from the Naked Basics palette to make the pink colour stand out even more.
 2. Apply a layer of pink eyeshadow on to your eyelid, and blend outwards.
 3. Apply another layer to make the colour stronger and brighter.
 4. Using your finger or a cotton swab, lightly dab clear/pink lipgloss or vaseline on your eyelid to create a glossy effect.
5. Finish by applying eyeliner and mascara .

OOTD: Culottes and Kurt Cobain

T- Shirt - Lucas David for Society6
Turtleneck - Urban Outfitters
Culottes - Topshop
Shoes - Adidas (Superstar's)
***
Before my Adidas' got completely trashed and nearly fell to pieces, I took photos in this outfit on a day out to Brick Lane. East London is (thankfully) dotted with little alleyways and car-parks so we were luckily able to find an area to take pictures in to match the try-hard-hipster aesthetic of Shoreditch.
I (Arianne) had been following an illustrator names Lucas David (@lucasbavid) on Instagram for so long before I found out that he had an online store which sold items with his creations on it, such as watery drawings and paintings of icons like Kurt Cobain (see above) and Amy Winehouse. The annoyingly cold weather is clearly indicated by the double-shirt thing going on in this outfit, which I paired with some denim culottes and hoop earrings...

OOTD: Pins, pins and more pins...

Jacket - Vintage (Paris)
Tee - Dad's Wardrobe
Trousers - Topshop
Shoes - Adidas Superstars
Pins - Vintage
Choker - ???
***
I think it's safe to say that this outfit is more or less a mish-mash of different things - checked trousers, denim, leather and to top it all off, pins from completely different sources and walks of life. I wasn't entirely sure what I was going for at the time, but somewhat like the randomness and the fact that you can have fun with fashion - it doesn't always have to be scandi-cool-normcore-effortless-chic-blogger-supreme style all the time. Yep, I hardly look like Cher, but recenly have been loving adding small touches like pins and embellished chokers when going for a plainer outfit, like this one composed of my bargain 8 euro denim jacket, Dad's t-shirt and trousers I must have bought 4 years ago...

OOTD : Clean and Simple

Top - ?
Trousers- ?
Backpack - ?
Shoes - Original white adidas superstars
***
Before the summer really started to kick off, we went to our typical sartorial Mecca - Oxford Street - to find some things before escaping on holiday.
I (Vera) chose to wear something clean and simple, including a lightweight long-sleeve which is perfect for those times when you roll your eyes at the idea of uncertain weather and lugging a jacket around, as well as these muted khaki/beige culottes, which are also a really versatile piece. I recently received this backpack for my birthday and have fallen in love with it, especially due to the golden hardware and how it adds a pop of colour without blinding you or looking like it was coloured with a highlighter pen, as well as a classic pair of Adidas superstars.
For, like, the 1000th time we apologise for infrequent blogging and hope to get back to a normal-ish routine after the summer break...

DIY Off-the-Shoulder Top

Inspired by recent spring/summer collections, the infamous Zara shirts and Youtube channel 'The Fashion Citizen', here is a simple tutorial on how to make your very own off-the-shoulder top...

  • Scissors
  • Fabric
  • Elastic - (two strips measured to the width of your upper arms and one to your chest)
  • Measuring tape

 1. Firstly, measure your upper body - across your chest and around your back - and multiply this value by 1.5 for the measurement for the main piece of fabric, whilst it should be around 10 inches in length for a more cropped effects. For the both sleeves, measure your upper arm and multiply this value by two, as well as measuring your desired length (mine were about 6 or 7 inches). Make sure to leave space for the seam and elastic casing.
2. Using the pieces of fabric for the sleeves on the opposite side, sew along the seam. At this point, also stitch up where you want your casing to be, which will allow you to thread the elastic through.
Don't forget to leave space/a gap where you can bring through your elastic.
3. Next, if desired, hem your sleeves and begin to thread the elastic. You can do this by using two
safety pins, pushing your pieces of elastic through the casing by scrunching up the fabric along the pin (see the link for more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJA-2RcNK8w).

4. Once you have done this, sew up the gaps you have left and turn your fabric inside out, and repeat this step for the main part of the top.
 5. Finally, using a small simple stitch, attach the sleeves to the main part of the top and voila!

Boots - Vagabond
Socks - Urban Outfitters
Bag - And Other Stories
Choker - Ebay

So here's just a quick post before we get back to 3000 essays and writing a half-decent personal statement for university application...
One day, I (Arianne), went out to a few galleries with a friend. Being a walking about and sketching type of day, I decided stick to the basics and go for jeans, boots and a casual tee. You may be thinking - why the hell are you wearing two shirts and a puffer jackets? Need I explain British weather? Needless to say it was an eventful and enjoyable day, despite the unexpected spouts of rain, blazing sunshine and getting slept on by a stranger on the tube...

Apart from wasting spending our teenage days revising, we managed to get out of the house for a friend's birthday dinner at the amazing Sticks 'n' Sushi restaurant in Soho. Although we look like sartorial serial killers (poker-face, leather and hardware at the ready), we actually had a great time, stuffing our faces with rolls and skewers to our heart's content and trying to forget the exams we have lurking ahead...

OOTD : Suede

Jacket - Vintage (Marella)
Jumper - Zara
Skirt - Asos
Bag - Longchamp
Shoes - Buffalo
Scrunchie - American Apparel
Tights - H&M
Earrings - Urban Outftters

Have we completely dropped off the face of the earth? No. Despite the fact that we've pretty much gone AWOL over the past few weeks/month, this is not due to laziness or forgetfulness, but instead the truck-load of work we've been bombarded with in preparation for mock and A-Level exams.
Because of this, we've had to drag out an old OOTD to share with you, so the style/colours my not apply as much as we approach SS16 (though we'll only stop wearing black when they make a darker colour...)
