OOTD + First Year Musings...

Oh how I'll miss campus life over summer - the casual caching up with friends, the comfortable proximity of club nights, restaurants and supermarkets and, admittedly, the level pre's before nights out .First year has certainly had its highs and lows for me both in terms of work, health ad social life and I think it is fair to say that I have learnt a fair bit about living more independently. I think the intensity particularly of workload is reflected in my lack of posting but I have a good 3-4 months to get back on the grind with this blog as well as my other creative outlets (THANK GOD!). Anyway, here is an outfit post (thanks to Izzy Manuel for the photos) as well as my notes on what I have taken away from fresher's...

 Shirt - Vintage
Trousers - Topshop
Sunglasses - Blank Sunglasses

1 - You might find and lose friendship in the least expected places - You may not be everyone's cup of tea and it's important to be yourself. On that note, you might find yourself in relationships which feel unnatural or as if they do not have longevity. Treat everyone with respect but don't expect to be best friends forever with each person you come across, whether that is during fresher's week itself or over the course off the year.

2- Take care of your health - It's natural to want to go out and have the best time possible, but it's also key to take care of your health both mentally and physically. For me personally this has especially had its highs and lows so I have come to understand how important it is to be conscious of how you are feeling and how it impacts your every day life. Oh yes, and probably best to not go too heavy on the booze, no matter how cheap Lambrini is and how funny the Snapchat stories will be the next day.

3- Budget, Budget, Budget (but don't be miserly) - This is actually something I have been very good with, if I do say so myself. You don't have to spreadsheet every penny you're spending, but just try to be conscious of how much things will and should  cost you in advance as well as responsibly splitting up your finances for work and fun. You don't want to be known as the party girl who survives on baked beans and dirty laundry, but also the recluse who gets their regular dose of foie gras and glistening whites...

4- Get involved - Although I have had my fair share of involvement, I now heavily regret not getting involved in sports or campus editorials. For many universities, there is so much on offer from Anime Society, to Streetwear Society to Wine and Cheese club, not to talk of the various sports which people also get people involved physically and socially, so seize the opportunity and find something you are passionate about.

5- Don’t stress , it’s only first year - Pretty straight-forward really!

Boots and other bits...

Hellooooo 2017! I think it's safe to say that we're all now so over 2016, or have been for a while now, and looking forward to a new year with slightly less death, war, and outrageous politicians with bight blonde hair and faces like a slapped arse...Anyway, before the end of the year it was, of course, Christmas, and I as lucky enough to get a few bits and bobs from friends and family including some sick boots which I can barely walk in (fashion is pain), big earrings and copious amounts of chocolate (unseen, probably eaten). Here are just a couple of pictures but I hope you all have an amazing new year and look forward to exciting things to come...

OOTD: Culottes and Kurt Cobain

T- Shirt - Lucas David for Society6
Turtleneck - Urban Outfitters
Culottes - Topshop
Shoes - Adidas (Superstar's)
***
Before my Adidas' got completely trashed and nearly fell to pieces, I took photos in this outfit on a day out to Brick Lane. East London is (thankfully) dotted with little alleyways and car-parks so we were luckily able to find an area to take pictures in to match the try-hard-hipster aesthetic of Shoreditch.
I (Arianne) had been following an illustrator names Lucas David (@lucasbavid) on Instagram for so long before I found out that he had an online store which sold items with his creations on it, such as watery drawings and paintings of icons like Kurt Cobain (see above) and Amy Winehouse. The annoyingly cold weather is clearly indicated by the double-shirt thing going on in this outfit, which I paired with some denim culottes and hoop earrings...

OOTD: Galleries and Screenprints

Jacket - Vintage
Top - Original Screen-print
Long Sleeve - GAP
Jeans - Topshop
Boots - Vagabond
Socks - Urban Outfitters
Bag - And Other Stories
Choker - Ebay
***
So here's just a quick post before we get back to 3000 essays and writing a half-decent personal statement for university application...
One day, I (Arianne), went out to a few galleries with a friend. Being a walking about and sketching type of day, I decided stick to the basics and go for jeans, boots and a casual tee. You may be thinking - why the hell are you wearing two shirts and a puffer jackets? Need I explain British weather? Needless to say it was an eventful and enjoyable day, despite the unexpected spouts of rain, blazing sunshine and getting slept on by a stranger on the tube...

OOTD : The Welcome Collection

Coat - Motel Rocks
Jumper - Zara
Jeans - Topshop (Joni)
Shoes - Doc Marten
Bag - Longchamp
***
A couple of months back I (Arianne) went to the Ann Veronika Janssens exhibition at the Welcome Collection in Euston. The name may or may not mean anything to you but this was basically the room with the pretty pastel smoke which loads of people probably Instagrammed about...
I don't normally go for an outfit this cutesy but was feeling like wearing creamy colours, shiny shoes and doing my hair Ã¡ la 90s Gwen Stefani today. May I also mention that it was bloody freezing this day, so I was able to bury my head into the neck of my jumper to stay warm. Yes, I did get a few weird looks whist sinking my head into this cylinder of wool, but there's nothing wrong with looking like a sartorial turtle...

OOTD: Double-shirting it

Crop Top - American Apparel
Turtleneck (worn under) - Zara
Jeans - Topshop
Coat - Asos Marketplace
Beret - Vintage (Mum's)
Bag - Longchamp
Boots - Vagabond

Now I (Arianne) don't know about anyone else, but I don't seem to have any clothes which are appropriate for the season. Only God knows how this is, but I find my self wanting but not being able to wear crop tops, the adolescent wardrobe staple which goes with virtually everything, all-year-round, with the conflict of freezing to death preventing me from fulfilling my goal. Today I managed to wear this top, however, layered over a turtleneck, as it added a nice and shiny touch to a practically all-black get up, and was the only crop top which could be worn with a top underneath which would not make be look like an absolute idiot. Yes, this isn't a new idea, but as part of experimenting with personal style in 2016, as well as being obsessed with the likes of 90's icons Cher Horowitz and Buffy Summers, this outfit seemed more appropriate than ever...

OOTD: Cool and Neutral

Jacket - Vintage, Asos Marketplace
Jumper - Monki
Trousers - Topshop
Boots - Vagabond
Bag - French Connection
***
I know what you're thinking. I look like a human marshmallow. A human marshmallow clad in cigarette pants and a pretty cool pair of chunky boots. As a consequence of living in the UK, we often suffer from the cold and wind and rain and all that crappy weather has to offer. I found this jacket from Asos Marketplace and after discovering it was a mere £12 and had fleece lining, had to pick it up to protect me from the misery that is Winter in England. It was worn with a plain jumper and cigarette pants to look more stylish and less like that creepy thing from Ghostbusters.

OOTD: Kowadakowa

Jacket - Vintage (Wrangler)
Sweatshirt - Kowadakowa
Trousers - Topshop
Bag - French Connection
Shoes - Vagabond
***
Who knew not having a struggle would be such a struggle? To some this may not be a big deal, but if like me (Arianne) your iPhone camera has a crack that looks as if someone has gotten a thick swipe of eyeliner on it, then this can be quite a pain. Luckily, whilst browsing through old posts in an attempt of finding something recent and relevant, I found a couple of OOTD photos, not taken too long ago, which we had yet to post.
We can now officially declare that we have transitioned into winter, with infrequent, disappointingly short moments of snow and more than enough rain. Before the absolute doom, gloom and misery of showers and  temperatures resembling a toddler's age, I went out wearing this. What I like the most is my sweatshirt, which was made by my cousin, who is planning on starting a lifestyle brand named Kowadakowa. Sometimes it is so hard to find something that doesn't have a sports slogan or caricature-like animal on it, so I really like the simplicity of the little white man logo.

OOTD: Minimal

Tunic Dress - Topshop
Jacket - Vintage (Wrangler)
Bag - And Other Stories
Shoes - Dr. Martens
Sunglasses - Jeepers Peepers
 ***
These photos were taken on the  this was on the day of the infamous Tube Strike here in London (aka Doomsday) when one of my friends and I decided to go to the centre of the city (a couple of weeks ago). Luckily I wore this light tunic from Topshop (I lost the grey one, as seen in a recent haul post) which isshort and flowy so managed to avoid baking amongst the crowds of angry Londoners, however, getting around was still a nightmare and you can see that the state of my hair mildly suffered as a result of the chaos - here are some things I learnt...
1. Never leave the house during a tube strike, but if  you must, bring along a good pair of walking shoes, a bottle of water and a good amount of patience and sanity
2. Bus drivers are not as nice as you think
3. See No. 1

OOTD: Carnaby

So today I got the chance to go to Carnaby Street for a bit of shopping with a friend and release the exam stress by treating ourselves. As it seems like it is almost compulsory to mention the weather in every blog post, I can say that London is finally warming up, and I managed to ditch a jumper and go for a crop top instead. You may be thinking - haven't I seen this outfit before? Well, yes and no. After obsessing over this Shade London skirt on Polyvore, I finally got it for my birthday. Thankfully, it is not too thick, tight and is surprisingly versatile, so I cannot wait to wear it more in the future. Additionally, it had a split in the front, which would be perfect for the upcoming summer months.
Jacket - Vintage (Wrangler)
Skirt - Shade London
Crop Top - Topshop
Boots - Vagabond
Bag - & Other Stories

After endless searching, I also managed to pick up the white Adidas Superstars in a size six - hell yeah - which happen to be super (excuse the pun) comfortable and work really well as casual shoes for many outfits. I think it's safe to say that I am dreading the day they get dirty...
Shoes - Adidas
Notebook - Muji
