Hear, Love, Wear : Kurt Cobain

As a result of a damaged camera we may not be able to publish many posts with our own recent photos. At first when my (Arianne) Canon broke, my first reaction was fear, panic and distress, but every cloud has a silver lining and so we've decided to create a series of posts sans DSLR entitled, 'Hear, Love, Wear'.

Through the posts to come, we can introduce you to some of our favourite artists/musicians, their sound and their style. So what better way to start a new series with a possibly familiar face ...here's Kurt Cobain.

Wear - Kurt Cobain was not only a 90's icon with blonde locks and music to fuel a youth generation, but his laid-back and edgy style are known to have influenced numerous collections of brands and designers, such as Saint Laurent and Dries Van Outen. Yes, it's not for everyone, but what I love most is that there are songs for when you're fuelled with angst, rage and frustration, as well as those for relaxing to. Autumn/Winter Wishlist

We'd be completely lying if we said that it hasn't been so long since we last posted something and we've been dedicated bloggers so, we will start off with a huge apology regarding absence...

...Anyway, unfortunately summer is drawing to a close , which, as you can imagine, is causing massive distress to many people around the world. However, while the teenage side of us  wants to bang our heads against a wall and scream into our pillows in regards to the upcoming beginning of term, the fashion side is simply jumping for joy as it means that our Autumn/Winter style will be in full force.

To welcome the extinction of bum-shorts, crop tops and various culturally insensitive makeup/hairstyles, we have put together a bunch of items from stores as a means of inspiration for the coming of the new season...enjoy!

Dress - Sandro - This is such a simple piece, but has a nice fold-over structure and deep colour which would be good for the autumn if the weather is nice but you don't want to wear a short/bright summer dress.

Dress - Motel - The fluffy element on this dress is so unique and makes it a really nice item of clothing for both a formal event and as day-wear.

Jumper - Topshop - One of the more simple pieces, this jumper is really nice and has a subtle raw-edge hem.

Skirt - Sister Jane - Silver on a piece of clothing makes the whole outfit so much more interesting, particularly if you  wear it will duller or monochrome pieces.

Halter Top - Motel - It may be slightly colder but it's no excuse to be afraid to wear something like this halter top, which you could probably get away with when paired with high-waisted jeans and a sheer/mesh top over it.

Jeans - English School London - The pharmaceutical designs on these jeans are so quirky and add character to an outfit, especially when paired with plain items of clothing. 

Boots - Vagabond - Yes,  we have an obsession with chunky boots, but these are perfect for the upcoming season and add edge to an outfit.

iPhone Case - Skinnydip London - This brand are known for their cute phone designs, and we really like the cool metallic and 3D elements to this case.

Lipstick (Wicked) - Topshop - A swipe of red lipstick is always a nice way to complete a look and this shade from Topshop is great for an A/W makeup look.

Backpack - Topshop - You cold pair this with virtually anything as it is a big backpack which can carry so much, and it's black sheen also makes it very versatile.

Inspired: Manish Arora

We have decided to create a segment on our blog entitled 'Designer Spotlight', in which we shift our focus towards a designer every now and again, taking inspiration from their various shows and trends.

MANISH ARORA

Manish Arora is an Indian fashion designer who, in 2012, left the fashion house of Paco Robanne and now focuses on his own line. 

With the fusion of Western culture and Eastern textures, embellishments and prints, Arora creates stunning and out-going pieces which have been worn by Nicki Minaj and Katie Perry. Although very outgoing, we love his psychedelic prints and the combination of urban styles, adorned with an array of shiny materials. Think a cross between Willy Wonka and Alexander McQueen with a hint of Balmain - he's known as the 'John Galliano of India' after all...

Spring Feels

Spring Feels by arianneobi

Today was the day that the sun finally decided to show up after months of wind, cold and rain in London - it was glorious. As the seasons are change, we transition from looking like Eskimos to donning less clothing (and then back to the Eskimos again). As we have mentioned before, here the weather is honestly bipolar, so sometimes it can be important to layer up or stay relatively warm during the spring months.
Here we have paired a flowy jumper with jeans and a casual pair of Adidas 'Superstar' trainers (which, unfortunately, our wardrobes lack), as well as a pastel coloured coat with chunky boots, Mom jeans and a cropped jumper, as an excuse to show off a bit of skin as it gets warmer. We are also currently obsessed with hoop earrings, which big or small, look so good with almost everything and add a bit of an edge.

Edgy January - First post of 2015

So we haven't been too active on Polyvore recently but decided it would be good to start the year with a bit of outfit inspiration. We paired the crop top with the marble midi skirt as it came with a matching top but we felt that this could look too overwhelming and somewhat tacky. The dark red lipstick also gives an edgy touch to the look while adding a bit of colour. This is definitely something we would wear if we could be bothered to leave the house looking super cool and, although it is sill winter tie, can be word with jeans or a plain black turtle neck as an alternative, as well as throwing on a coat to keep you warm :)

AW14/15 Is sadly, tragically finally here, so that means new season wardrobe. As one can imagine, being more-or-less normal teenagers basically means you are living off the five to twenty pound notes handed to you from your parents, hence not being able to afford the items above. Most of these are dark colours (apologies to anyone neon/pastel fans out there) and are more of the edgier products from a few higher-end shops. 

Feel free to comment and tell us which item you like best, how it could be styled, and even leave a link to a good dupe or similar item that will not cost an arm or a leg :p

Comme As You Are

Boredom strikes again i.e. another creation from Polyvore. The website, although tedious i an attempt to make the perfect outfit/creation/whatever, is quite fun to use if you are bored or just in that mood. The outfit is more or less black and white (pretty monochrome and sartorial, no?) so watercolour splashes were added just for that extra touch. It turns out Blackscore have the coolest T-Shirts (all about £30-£40-ish) and this one just about beats the rest..apart from the Kanye one ('It's not easy being Yeezy'), that's pretty cool too...
